As commented by Stefan and others, Keka must have the ability to let chose the output format within the drop zone, whether designing the drop zone again or adding drag and drop abilities to the toolbar.

Bug report from 2012-11-27
Keka 1.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.6.8

If you drag'n'drop an object (file or folder)
onto the main window, you get the 2 drop zones:

  • Drop here to compress
  • Drop here to extract

If the active panel is "7z" or "Zip" this visual effect and the dropping work fine. But if the active panel is "Tar", "Gzip", "Bzip2", "Dmg" or "Iso", the window content starts flickering, and is barely readable, you have difficulties to drop your object. Please fix this. I guess the cause for this is, that 7z and Zip cause the window to grow quite large, providing enough space for the drop zone visual, while the smaller panels have a problem redrawing the drop zones.

And if we are already discussing drop zones, I have an interaction design suggestion for this:

  • Right now you must first decide the format, then drag'n'drop.
  • Would be cool, if you could make the format decision while dragging the object. Implementation: If you drag your object on one of the format-icons in the toolbar, the according panel opens below, where you then drop it on either the extraction or compression zone.

I tested Keka 1.0, with the elder icons both in the tab bar and the drop zone,
and all tabs had 2 drop zones, which all worked fine UI-wise. No flickering!

Works fine until 1.0.2, and in 1.0.3 the bug appears.
